About the event

Within this  workshop we will read and discuss poetry/prose (shared in advance) by Carrie Ayagaduk Ojanen, Kathleen Jamie and Rodger Greenwald. We will beckon from our own stories times when we stood “In the crowd not to have one person’s name to say”, sought a song for another, for ourselves, or asked ourselves what we are waiting for?

We will also look at a short series of artwork which evoke these same questions including work by Alaskan artists Erin Ggaadimits Ivalu Gingrich, Sonya Kelliher Combs and Susan's own poetry.

From these harvested stories and responses to these provocative questions we will:

1.) write a collective, communal poem .

2.) write a solo-authored poetry/prose piece.

This class is followed with a one hour chat on Saturday, January 9th, 2026 from 10AM-11AM at no additional charge. Participants will have the chance to share their work and converse about the process. they experienced through the holiday…
